The promoters in the eukaryotic cells are made up of three components: core, proximal, and distal promoter. The region of core promoter is present near the start codon and it contains the TATA box and TSS (transcription start site) and they tend to act as the binding site for RNA polymerase. The transcription of the template strand starts as soon as the RNA polymerase binds to this core promoter.
The histones and the proteins that are responsible for the process of transcription are present within the TATA box. The histone binding leads to the prevention of the initiation of transcription. On the contrary, the transcription factors promote the process of transcription. The TSS region is located near the 3’ region of the DNA sequence and it is the place where the transcription process actually starts.
