DNA library is a collection of the fragments of DNA molecules which are generated and deposited in the population of micro-organisms. These fragments are propagated in the living systems through the process of molecular cloning. DNA libraries are of three types i.e. cDNA libraries, genomic libraries and mutant libraries.
The cDNA library constitutes those DNA fragments which are formed by the reverse transcription of RNA. The genomic library is formed by the collection of genomic DNAs and the mutant library is made by the randomized incorporation of nucleotides in the genes. Each fragment of DNA (gene of interest) is introduced into the vector and then these recombinant molecules of DNA are incorporated into the bacterial population where they get copied and propagated.
