Definition of Transduction

Transduction is referred to as a process through which a foreign DNA is being incorporated into a vector and this vector is then introduced into the target cell. This transfer of the genetic material can be horizontal or vertical gene transfer.

This process does not require direct physical contact between the donor and the recipient cells as we have seen in the case of conjugation in which the two cells unite at a certain point and then the DNA is transferred. Transduction has now become a very common technique through which molecular biologists are able to introduce the genes in the organisms quite stably.
