Definition of Aneuploid

An aneuploid cell is such a cell which is composed of an abnormal number of chromosomes. A typical and normal cell of a human has 46 chromosomes but if this number changes to 45 or 47 due to some genetic abnormality, then it is said that the cell has undergone the condition of aneuploidy. There is no difference between either one or more complete chromosomal sets in aneuploidy.

On the contrary, the cell which is composed of a complete chromosomal set with any number is said to be a euploid cell. Aneuploid cells arose during the process of cell division when the chromosomes are not properly divided among the resulting daughter cells. When aneuploidy occurs in the germline cells, it usually results in miscarriages.
