Definition of Complementation

Complementation is a kind of interaction that is present between the non-allelic genes. These alleles are located at different loci of the chromosomes but have an ability to influence one gene over the rest through the interaction.

Example of Complementation:

In humans, the mutant genes in the state of heterozygosity produce deafness but it is not the case that the offspring of the individuals who have hereditary deafness would be deaf for sure. The deafness in the parents is caused by varied genes, hence the child is heterozygous for the two genes. Consequently, the child would hear normally.
