Definition of Enthalpy

One of the thermodynamic properties of a system is termed enthalpy which is the total internal energy that is being added into the product of the system’s pressure and volume. It is represented by H and it reflects the capacity of a system to release heat. The units in which the enthalpy is expressed are joule and calorie.

The change in enthalpy is calculated by determining the difference between the two states of matter. The heat that is flowed in the calorimetric process can be found out by the change in enthalpy. Moreover, enthalpy also determines whether a reaction is endothermic or exothermic.
