Definition of Eurobond

A Eurobond is a bond that is issued in a foreign currency that is other than the currency of a country in which it is issued. For example, if a company issues GBP 1000 bonds in the United States, it would be called a Eurobond. The issuance of Eurobonds involves international financial markets where across the border currencies are traded on a regular basis.

One of the greatest benefits of issuing a Eurobond is that the issuer can raise money from any investors across the globe. However, there is a need for a guarantee to be given to the issuer that the whole issue is purchased. So that is why the issuance of Eurobonds involves an underwriter.
