Definition of Food Web

Food web is the representation of the feeding relationship present in a community (formed by the combination of populations). It is a very significant concept of ecology. The transfer of energy from the producers to the herbivores, carnivores are depicted in a food web. A large number of food chains are interconnected to each other in a food web. The food web describes how the energy is flowing from one feeding group of organisms to the others with the help of arrows that point from one species to another.

There are two types of food chains. One that starts with the primary producers is called the grazing food chain whereas the one which starts with the dead organic matter is called the detrital food chain. The predator-prey relationship is also determined through food webs.
