Definition of Lewis Structure

Lewis structure is a type of structure that exhibits the bonding that exists between the various atoms present in a molecule. Moreover, it also shows the lone pairs of electrons a molecule is having. The Lewis structure is also named as Lewis dot formula, Lewis dot structure, electron dot structure, etc.

The covalent compounds as well as the coordinate covalent compounds are being represented by the Lewis structures. Each atom of the molecule along with its position is shown in the structure with the help of its chemical symbol. The lone pairs which do not participate in bonding are represented in the form of pairs of dots.
