Definition of Master Budget



A master budget is a budget that includes all small budgets of various areas of a business or departments of a company. For example, a master production budget can include raw material budget, direct labor budget, and factory overheads budget. Similarly, a master human resource budget may include a salary budget, benefits, and compensation budget.

 


Master budget can be prepared for a month, quarter, or even a year. The master budget is a bigger box in which all small boxes are placed. A master budget might also include budgeted financial statements to represent the forecasts.
