Definition of Molar Volume

According to the branch of chemistry, when the volume occupied by a substance is divided by the total amount of the substance, it gives us the value of molar volume. This relation is determined at the given conditions of temperature and pressure. The molar volume is represented by Vm.

In other words, the molar volume of a substance is equivalent to the value obtained by dividing the molar mass by the mass density. The System International unit of molar volume is m3/mol but for gases, dm3/mol is widely accepted. The molar volume of the liquids and solids is measured in cm3/mol.
