A balanced chemical equation of a reaction is often referred to as a molecular equation. The ionic compounds are depicted in the form of neutral compounds and the state in which the substances exist is mentioned in brackets after their chemical formula. In other words, it can be said that all the substances that are participating in a chemical reaction are written in the molecular equation as if they occur in the form of molecules.
Though, it is much better if the chemical equations show what really is happening in the reaction e.g. if a substance exists in an aqueous state, it would undergo dissociation, hence it should be written in the form of ions.
