Definition of Net Ionic Equation

The net ionic equation is a certain type of chemical equation of a reaction that shows only those species that are taking part in a chemical reaction. This is used in order to show the reduction-oxidation reactions, acid-base neutralization reactions, and double displacement reactions. It can also be said that the net ionic equation is employed for those reactions that are strong electrolytes in water.

The net ionic equation is written in this way: the balanced chemical equation is first noted down. Then the electrolytes are broken down into their respective ions and the equation containing these ions is written down. The co-efficient and the charges are mentioned along with the species.
