Definition of Phenology



Phenology is a study of periodic events that take place in the life cycles of biological organisms. The influence of the seasons, climate change, and habitat factors, on these cycles, is also studied in this. In short, it is the study that comprises all phenomena and happenings that are taking place around us.

The dates of the recurrent naturally occurring events are recorded and studied. Phenology is the combination of both meteorology and ecology.

 


Examples of Phenology:

Examples include the date when the leaves and flowers emerge, the first flight of butterflies, the first and the last appearance of a migrant bird, etc.
