All the characteristics belonging to an individual which can be observed are termed as the phenotype. The phenotype is the consequence of the interaction of the genotype of an organism with its environment. There are some traits which are highly influenced by the genotype whereas some are largely determined by the environmental factors.
Some of the environmental factors that influence the phenotype include the diet of an organism, how much exercise he does and how much he smokes etc. So, we can say that it is not necessary that the genotype directly correlates with the phenotype.
The traits that are observable include height, eye color, weight, hair color, biochemical properties, behavior etc.
