Definition of Photon

The reduction is a chemical process in which the oxygen atom is removed, hydrogen is added or an electron is gained. Reducing agent is defined as a compound or an element that has a tendency to donate the electron/s to an electron acceptor in an oxidation-reduction reaction. The other species which has the ability to accept those electrons are termed as oxidizing agents. Reducing agents are also known as reducers and reductants.

A reducing agent reduces other species but itself gets oxidized as it loses the electrons. Before the reaction, the reducing agents have extra electrons and they have a low oxidation number and hence are electron donors. Examples include metals, glucose, formic acid, etc.
