Definition of Photons

The small packets of energy derived from the electromagnetic radiations are termed photons. These were first explained by Albert Einstein while he was working on the photoelectric effect. He proposed that there exist some discrete packets of energy when the light is being transmitted.

Max Planck had also explained the concept that the heat rays are emitted and absorbed in the form of distinct units which he named quanta. The photons are known as the light quantum and their energy is totally dependent upon the frequency of the radiations. They are the carriers of the electromagnetic field and have no charge and mass.
