Definition of Scientific Method

The scientific method is a process by which that knowledge is acquired which is needed for the development of science. The scientific method has a unique sequence of steps and it must be performed in a certain way. The first one is to collect observations and one must have a skeptical approach regarding observations. The observations can be quantitative as well as qualitative. General and specific deductions are drawn from these observations.

After careful interpretation of the observations, a hypothesis is formulated which is a tentative explanation of the observations. A good hypothesis then becomes a theory which can be refuted at any time but if the theory is supported quite well, it becomes a law which cannot be rejected.
