Definition of Scintillation Counter

An instrument that is used in detecting and measuring ionizing radiations is known as the scintillation counter. The radiations are measured with the help of the excitation effect that is produced by the incident radiation on the scintillating material and afterward the resulting light pulses are detected.

This instrument typically consists of a scintillator which is responsible for the generation of photons. These photons are generated in response to the incident radiations. The scintillation counters are often employed in radiation protection, physics research, etc. They are capable of measuring the intensity as well as the energy of the radiations.
