Definition of Torr

One of the units in which pressure is measured is known as torr and it is based on the absolute scale. One torr is equal to 1/760 of one atmospheric pressure. In terms of pascal, one torr is equal to 133.32 Pa. This unit does not belong to SI units and is named after an Italian physicist, E. Torricelli.

One-thousandth part of the torr is regarded as one millitorr (0.001 Torr) and it is often used when there is a need for a small unit. Moreover, it is sometimes confused and wrongly denoted by T which is the symbol assigned to Tesla.
