Definition of Translocation

Translocation is referred to such a process in which the part belonging to a chromosome is being transferred to another chromosome. This movement of the parts of chromosomes from one to the other results in various flaws in the chromosomes as they are known to carry genes on them which are the basic heredity units.

Hence, we can say that this is a sort of chromosomal anomaly in which a certain portion of chromosome breaks, goes, and attaches to another chromosome. The translocations can cause a number of serious abnormalities and disorders, one of which is a blood cancer. These changes in the structure of the chromosomes are detected through the karyotypes of the cells that are being affected.
