Definition of Allopolyploidy

Allopolyploidy is a condition which occurs when an offspring is polyploid it arises from two different parental species. The interbreeding of the different species is not common and normal due to the fact that both mother and the father are not composed of the same number of chromosomes.

Consequently, it becomes difficult to produce the diploid pairs of chromosomes out of them and it also leads to the production of such an offspring which is sterile in nature. The complex patterns of allopolyploidy are seen in a number of plant and animal species.
