Definition of Aminoacyl Site

The aminoacyl site is a region present in the ribosome which acts as a binding site for the molecules of transfer RNA during the process of translation. There is a total of four sites which are present on the ribosome i.e. A-site, P-site and E-site for the attachment of t-RNA and one binding site for messenger RNA molecule.

The aminoacyl site is the first place to which the aminoacyl transfer RNA attaches. The second site which is the peptidyl site binds the tRNA which bears the growing chain of the polypeptide. When the tRNA gets empty, it gets attached to the exit site and leaves the ribosome.
