Definition of Asexual Reproduction

Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction in which the organisms make copies of them but without the exchange of genetic material with the other organisms through sex. On the other hand, the genomes of both the parents combine in the case of sexually reproducing organisms and they give rise to an offspring that has a unique genetic profile. This leads to diversity in the population and hence the chances of survival increase.

But the asexual organisms lack this diversity and therefore, are unable to adapt to the environmental changes. Asexual reproduced organisms have an ability to reproduce a great number of offspring in a very short time and they do not even need a mate in order to form a new population. The single-celled organisms like bacteria, protists practice such a form of reproduction.
