Definition of Biological Species Concept

This concept states that the species are defined as those members of the population that can interbreed freely in nature. They have not defined according to their similarity in appearance yet the appearance is quite helpful in order to differentiate the species from one another. The successful interbreeding of the species results in the production of fertile offspring.

This concept makes sure that genetic information must be exchanged within organisms through interbreeding. Therefore, the integrity of the species is supported by the breeding that takes place within the taxon of species. The biological species concept is confirmed by several empirical types of research. There is a large number of species that reproduce asexually but according to this concept, the asexual organisms are unable to form species.
