Definition of Discovery Based Science

It is basically a scientific methodology in which the large amount of data obtained from the various experiments are carefully analyzed. The main purpose of this lies in finding new patterns and forming hypotheses from the observations. On the contrary, it was a scientific practice in the old times to draw the hypotheses before analyzing the experimental data.

However, the information we get from the phenomenological world leads us to the process of inductive reasoning in which we generalize the specific observations. One most commonly used tool in discovery-based science is data mining. Data mining is applied to the data that is collected from analyzing the DNA, climate, and nuclear reaction modeling, etc.
