Definition of Dnaa Protein

A protein in a bacterial cell that serves the role of initiating the activation of DNA replication is known as DnaA protein. It promotes the replication process and hence leads to the unwinding of the DNA at oriC. The concentration of this protein determines the activation of the initiation of DNA replication.

It accumulates during the growth phase and leads to the separation of the strands at the 13-mer repeats. It is an ability of the DnaA protein to get bound to its own promoter. In this way, the RNA polymerase gets blocked and therefore, the process of transcription is inhibited. This is an autoregulated process as DnaA protein controls and regulates the expression of its own.
