Definition of Inborn Error Of Metabolism



Inborn error of metabolism is a type of genetic disorder that is caused due to the defect present in an enzyme that is involved in a certain metabolic pathway. Hence the body of the individual is not capable of converting the food in the form of energy and this is known to be a rare genetic disorder. The food when not broken down into smaller pieces starts getting deposited into the body which can cause a number of problems.

 


The inborn error in metabolism can become a cause of delay in the process of development and may give rise to several other problems if remain uncontrolled. Some disorders that are caused by the error of metabolism include fructose intolerance, galactosemic, phenylketonuria, etc.
