Definition of Sexual Dimorphism

Sexual dimorphism is referred to such a condition in which the two sexes i.e., male and female depict variable characteristics despite belonging to the same species. These varied characteristics are other than those variations which are seen in their sexual organs. The condition of sexual dimorphism is seen in a number of plants and animals.

The differences may be minor or extreme and they include the characteristics like size, weight, color, behavioral and cognitive abilities etc. These differences are caused due to the genetic material which is being inherited from varied sexual patterns.
